Under the Spell of Love in the Coming of Age Story

The spell of love can, of course, strike anyone at anytime in his or her life, coming of age story or not. In the coming of age story, however, the strike is so devastating since the victim has no old solutions to fall back upon. It catches the person at a most vulnerable point and the person is quite often at a loss as to what exactly to do.

In Meet Me on the Paisley Roof, Trussell's teen friends, Ronnie and Cassidy, see him under love's spell and try both to tease and "gently" nudge him to action. The story intensifies as the friends innocently prod Trussell into making a birthday wish, which he does, "That's easy. I want to drive the car." But alas, they reject his birthday wish and submit him to the "Tickle Test of Truth", a test that not many victims have to endure. So what does Trussell really want for his birthday? Find the answer, and some laughs, in the book!

Trussell pursues the girl of his dreams, Ellen. Well, sort of. He consults a friend, an older girl who already understands the spell of love. Trussell confesses to an age-old coming of age story problem, "I don't know what to say to her. Girls are just different." So how does his friend Emily help to solve Trussell's problem? The answer is waiting in the book!
